Secreted around Bovey Tracey are small brass plaques. Each one stands as testimony of survival, awarded only to survivors of the deeds of the man known as ‘Dangerous’. While local legend ‘Dangerous’ is innocent of any troublemaking, it does seem that trouble had a knack for following him.
The plaque here was awarded to his friend ‘Rich’ for the most explosive story of all. ‘Dangerous’ and ‘Rich’ had been arguing over the ownership of a crow-scarer, a type of shotgun cartridge. With Dangerous insisting the crow-scarer should be kept with ‘Rich', and ‘Rich’ insisting it should be kept with ‘Dangerous’. The end result was an accidental discharge costing ‘Rich’ a few fingers from his drinking hand!

Another plaque, hidden in a doorway just a few doors up has been awarded to ’Blondie’. The story goes that Dangerous was meant to be looking after Blondie on the eve of his wedding. Dangerous thought the best way to keep him occupied was to keep him at the bar. Several pints later, Blondie was in no fit state to return home. ‘Dangerous’ attempted to guide him to safety, but unfortunately, fate had other plans. Blondie tripped on the step, his knees buckled and he smacked his head on the curb. His wedding photos show him with a bruised eye and seven stitches in his eyebrow.

There is at least one other brass plaque hidden in Bovey’s high street. Can you find it?
