Originally built as a coaching house, The Dolphin thrived in it’s position as an inn at ‘the gateway to the moors’. Catering to weary travellers, it boomed again when the railway station opened in 1866.
With its long and vibrant history, it’s no wonder some of it’s patrons never quite managed to leave.
Several people have reported a cold hand on their shoulder, or catching site of a person out of the corner of their eye.

There have even been reports of passers by seeing shadows moving in the windows, but when they ask about revellers using the event rooms upstairs, they are shocked to find the rooms empty that day!
Rest assured, if you visit The Dolphin for a little refreshment, all their spirits are very welcoming!
